December tip of the month

Tips on what's going on and how to get around Walt Disney World

You'll have no trouble getting into the holiday spirit this month as Walt Disney World is in full holiday regalia and the lights and sounds of the season can be found in each park and resort. Many special events are going on such as; Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, Holidays Around the World, the Candlelight Processional, and the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights to name the most notable.

If you are planning a visit to WDW during the month of December, early in the month is your best best for getting deals on a stay in the resorts as well as for avoiding crowds. You can count on at least a couple days of being able to walk right onto your favorite rides without having to wait in long lines. Now we can't say for sure which days are the best as they change from year to year, but the first two weeks in December are among the best to enjoy a less crowded Disney.

You could also use this time to enjoy an evening of holiday themed fun by attending Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. Read all about our visit Here.

Also, who can think of a better place to spend New Year's Eve than with Mickey and his Pals? Make your dinner reservations early (Try the California Grill so you can watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks) because locations will fill quickly.

Events that are ongoing and coming up at Walt Disney World this month include;

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party- On selected nights November 8th - December 19th. Celebrate the holiday season at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party at the Magic Kingdom with Mickey and all his pals. Enjoy Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas Parade with Santa making an appearance, meet and greet with Disney characters throughout the park, walk down Main Street U.S.A. as snow falls each evening, have a cup of complimentary hot cocoa and some cookies, and finish the evening with a special holiday themed fireworks display.

Holidays Around the World/ Candlelight Processional- November 26th - December 30th. There is no better place to visit than Epcot during the holiday season. See how other countries across the golbe celebrate the holidays as Epoct is filled with festive decorations and live entertainment. Enjoy the nightly Candlelight Processional to really get in the holiday spirit (I get the shivers just thinking about it).

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights- Let's not forget the massive light display at Disney's Hollywood Studios that is a must see if you are visiting the parks between November 8th and January 3rd. With the sounds of holiday music soothing guests as they walk through and the smell of those cinnamon sugar roasted pecans along with the "snow" falling throughout the display this is one of the best experiences to be found throughout Walt Disney World property during the holidays.

By mid-November many of the Walt Disney World resorts will be in full winter holiday regalia and several are worth visiting purely for their decorations.

Disney's Wilderness Lodge- The gianormous Christmas wreathes and garland that decorate the outside of the Lodge are just teasers as you will see as you stroll through the front doors and into the lobby. Taking up a good portion of the lobby is a multi-story Christmas tree and there are holiday decorated garlands running along many of the wooden rails in the lobby.

Disney's Contemporary Resort- You'll notice the huge Christmas tree outside of the resort and the gingerbread display inside is always very nice.

Disney's Polynesian Resort- One of the few resorts that still has a gingerbread house contest for its culinary cast members. Look for the gingerbread houses in the first or second floor of the lobby.

Disney's Yacht Club and Beach Club- The Yacht Club is host to the coolest Christmas train village this side of Epcot and the Beach Club usually has a really interesting gingerbread house display in the lobby. Can you find every hidden Mickey on it?

Disney's Boardwalk Resort and Villas- Home to another gingerbread display and finding the hidden Mickey's on it will kill some time as the kids (both big and small) look to find every one.

Disneys' Grand Floridian Resort- Saving one of the best for last as the Grand Floridian is always a favorite for both children and their adults. The huge Christmas tree that seems to stretch to the ceiling, the decorations along the stairwells, and of course the life size gingerbread house where you may purchase a delicious gingerbread shingle.

As you can see, this is one of the best months to plan a visit to Walt Disney World. Enjoy!
