April 2011 tip of the month

Tips on what's going on and how to get around Walt Disney World

April at Disney can be a very enjoyable time to visit Walt Disney World. If you plan ahead.

The crowds are starting to get larger and various school districts around the country are still getting in their Spring Break holidays which means more people are coming to Central Florida to enjoy our weather and all the theme parks. The weather is pleasant for the most part, but days of early summer heat (yes into the upper 80's to lower 90's) are going to happen throughout the month and there will be some infrequent cold fronts pushing through which may produce some pretty heavy downpours and thunderstorms.

If you are planning a trip over to WDW then take a few moments and check out the forecast to see if you need to bring an umbrella or if you should just wait for another day. As far as crowds go, there is no way to predict how crowded a particular park is going to be anymore. It used to be that you could have a fair idea of the crowd situation depending on the time of year, but over the past several years those usual "Dead Times" are few and far in between.

Our best tip for you regarding crowds is if you are thinking of a weekend trip then either head over later in the day on Saturdays (the Magic Kingdom stays open pretty late this time of year and the only park to close early is Animal Kingdom and even that park stays open later this time of year) or go over on the traditional "Going home or just getting in day" Sunday. Many families pack up and head home or are just getting settled in from their arrival on Sundays and we have found that Sunday afternoons can be a great time to get a little more elbow room when visiting the parks.

If you have the opportunity try visiting on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays as these days also tend to be a little less crowded.

April at Epcot centers around the International Flower and Garden Festival as the park is transformed into a virtual rainbow of colored blooms. This is the perfect time to see what it is all about before the heat of late April/ early May take a toll on the flowers.

No matter why or when you visit this month, enjoy your time at Disney!
