Off the beaten path: North of the border

By: Ryan Seeloff
How much trouble can the Seeloff crew get into when we venture up into the Canadian Rockies? Find out this week as we head from the sunny shores of Florida's Space Coast to the rocky recesses of Alberta's Crowsnest Pass and then even further north as we venture up to Banff National Park.
Crownest Pass is located about three hours southwest of Calgary right in the middle of the Rocky Mountains, not far from British Columbia. About an hour to the south is the northern border of Montana (We will be trying to cross the border back into the United States to visit Glacier National Park on one of the days during our trip.
There are several small towns located within Crowsnest Pass including; (From east to west) Bellvue, Frank, Blairmore, and Coleman). Each town takes up about the same area as Indialantic and the nearest larger city is Lethbridge (more than an hour east). By the way, the nearest Walmart is in the tiny town of Pincher Creek (About 30 minutes east of Frank).
We will spend five days exploring Crowsnest Pass and the surrounding area including a trip to a coal mine, Frank Slide, hiking, fishing (As much as time allows), more hiking, and of course I will take a bunch of photos as the scenery will be amazing and the wildlife is diverse (Black and grizzly bears, mountain lions, wolves, moose, mountain goats, elk, and the occasional friendly Bigfoot).
A trip to Canada's Waterton Lakes National Park for a boat ride down into the United States and a day trip down into Montana to visit Glacier National Park are planned if weather permits.
Then we will head over an hour northwest of Calgary for two days at Banff National Park where I am told the views of the mountains are among the most beautiful in the world. While there we will enjoy a dip in the Banff hot springs (I'm not a big fan of hot water and this water averages 102 degrees) and a trip up to the top of a mountain in a gondola if weather permits.
