1/30- ‘Music for Life’ a Valentine for Brevard
The Ditchfield Family Singers will make a return appearance to Brevard County with two free concerts on Sunday, February 12th at Riverside Presbyterian Church, 3400 N. Atlantic Ave., Cocoa Beach. The group will perform songs from the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s, as well as Broadway hits and inspirational favorites at 3:30 PM and again at 7:00 PM. With a sound most often compared to the Von Trapp family from the Sound of Music, the Ditchfield Family Singers will appear exclusively at Riverside Presbyterian Church in their Brevard engagement. A free ticket for either show is required and can be reserved online at www.RiversidePres.org or by calling 321-525-7825.
Riverside Presbyterian Church Deacon, Mason Gibson, likens the Ditchfield Family Singers appearance to a Valentine for Brevard County.
"A Ditchfield Family Singers concert is always an outpouring of love and harmony,” said Gibson. “Our free tickets started going quickly, so we added a second performance at 7 PM. We are extremely happy to welcome them back as a part of the free Dr. Vernon Boushell Concert Series here at Riverside Presbyterian Church.”

1/26- Palm Bay’s Pro Boxing Event Just Got Heavier
Just when we thought it couldn’t get better, it just did. All Star Boxing has just added another title fight for the February 10th show at the Palm Bay Community Center. Heavyweight Cuban gold medalist Luis Ortiz (14-0-12 KO’s) will fight 10 rounds for the NABA Heavyweight title. The journey from Cuba for professional boxers doesn’t always end with title fights and million dollar contracts for its world-class amateur boxers.
When Luis Ortiz left Cuba two years ago, he knew there were no guarantees when he landed in Miami. Yet he was willing to leave his 2-year-old daughter to make a better life for his family through pro boxing. With 362 amateur fights under his belt, the lefthander is on the fast track and could be the next great heavyweight from Cuba. Ortiz is attempting to follow in the hallowed footsteps of Cuban heavyweight greats Teofilo Stevenson and Felix Savon, who never left the small Caribbean nation of just over 11 million people to pursue pro boxing.
Cuba has won 32 gold medals in Olympic competition since 1972 but doesn’t allow pro boxing, forcing several boxers to defect for greener pastures. In Cuba, boxers earn little more than $25 a month but are treated as national heroes and often enjoy state-bestowed privileges such as a car or house.
