'Twas the Night before the Space Coast Cookie Challenge
Time for last minute preparations to meet your high expectations!
By Ryan Seeloff
Twas the night before the Space Coast Cookie Challenge and all through our house,
all the creatures were stirring even the computer's mouse.
The cookie cutters were placed on the counter top with care,
in hopes that the gingerbread would be well prepared.
The children both begged to eat just a bit,
but dad said not a chance if you don't grab a chair and sit.
With mom sipping some wine and I looking for the ground cloves,
we searched all over and found them, but I needed to stand on my toes.
When out on the porch there arose such a clatter,
the pointer sprung off the couch to see what was the matter.
When what to our cookie baked eyes should appear,
no one except our pug of course rubbing on the carpet its rear.
Back to the kitchen and cookie baking I went,
I knew if they weren't finished my time would have not been well spent.
More rapid than factory machinery the ingredients they flew,
the kids they whined and screamed as our kids always do.
More nutmeg, less ginger, maybe some cinnamon too,
no it's still not quite right now what should I do?
As I tried to fix the recipe with this trick and that,
I knew for sure without baking powder the cookies surely would be flat.
Now properly mixed and ready to chill,
the dough was wrapped and I was sure it fit the bill.
Forward to the next morning and it's time to roll the dough,
more flour all over the kitchen I hear Mom yelling "Oh no!"
Cutting cookies faster than the great Paula Dean,
there's just no way I'm keeping this kitchen clean.
Into the oven and out now they're done,
they taste pretty good score one for Dad he hit a home run.
Now it's time to enjoy them along with the rest,
you'll taste each one to find out whose came out best.
Merry Christmas and enjoy the 2nd Annual Space Coast Cookie Challenge!
