Hounds take to the sky

A local championship for the 2011 Hyperflite Skyhoundz Canine Disc Championships was held on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Wickham Park. Eighteen canine/human teams competed in the novice division and twenty-eight teams competed in the competitive division of this distance/accuracy event.
The winners in the novice division were: in third place, Ruby, a Chocolate Lab, and owner Joe Schoettle, from Vero Beach, FL with a total of 9 points; second place, Bailey, an American Staffordshire Terrier, and owner Greg Segallis, from Melbourne, FL with 10 points; and first place, Rylie, a Border Collie, and owner Todd Reed, from Mims, FL with 15.5 total points.
In the competitive division the winners were: in sixth place, Mesa, a Border Collie, and owner Kerry Stevens, from Lighthouse Point, FL with 16 points; fifth place was Fergie, a Border Collie, and owner Gary Duke, from Wesley Chapel, FL with 17 points; fourth place, Nyx, a Border Collie, and owner Kerry Stevens, from Lighthouse Point, FL with a score of 22.5 (in 12 throws); third place went to Molly, a mixed breed, and owner Mike Dillon, from Tavares, FL with 22.5 points (in 8 throws); second place was Bandit, an Australian Shepherd, and owner Chris Engel, from Leesburg, FL with a score of 23; and first place in the competitive division went to Flight Time Kota, an Australian Shepherd, and owner Chris Engel, from Leesburg, FL with a total of 26.5 points.
