Let's see how Merritt Island graduate Jackie Oleksik is enjoying her time at Brevard Community College.

Play Brevard- How does it feel to be at the end of another season? Relieved? Looking forward to next year?

It’s sort of bittersweet. I love playing volleyball so it’s always sad to think that this may be my last season, but at the same time I have so much more time to devote to my school work and it’s a little less stressful.

Play Brevard- What were the highlights personal/team for this past season?

I think the cohesiveness of our team was a big plus. A lot of teams may have trouble between girls liking one and not the other but our team got along great so it made being with each other a lot of fun. As for myself, I got to play a new position and I fell in love with being libero.

Play Brevard- What are your goals for next season?

If possible I would love to play for a university next year. My goal is to attend USF so if I could play for them that would be amazing.

Play Brevard- How does playing at the collegiate level compare to high school?

The collegiate game is just set at such a faster pace. My high school team was undefeated so we were some of the best in our conference and district, but the college level is still a completely different ball game.

Play Brevard- What do you miss the most about high school? The least?

I probably miss my volleyball team more than anything else about high school. We were also very close and had 3 undefeated district and conference championships.

Play Brevard- Looking back.... What were some highlights during your varsity volleyball career?

One of the things that meant the most to me was being so flexible in my position. I started as a defensive specialist and worked my way up to being one of the primary outside hitters. When we needed someone to step up and play middle opposite our tallest girl, I was the one to do it. I was the shortest middle blocker in the conference but I definitely wasn’t intimidated. I also lead my team in aces for my senior season.

Play Brevard- Where to after BCC?

My number one choice would have to be University of South Florida. I have some friends there already so it would be a smooth transition I think.

Play Brevard- Looking into the future.... where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I would hope to be working for a magazine. My ultimate goal is to live and work in New York and if it could happen that soon, I would be so lucky.

Play Brevard- Last song you downloaded?

Colbie Callait- Fallin for You

Play Brevard- Rock, paper, or scissors?

Rock. It’s strong like my lord and savior Jesus Christ.
