As summer beckons and the seasons change, do last year’s clothes still fit?
As it happens not very well and you try to suck in your stomach, but this doesn’t work and it just hangs over your pants looking very unsightly and you start to feel a little self- conscious.

So what steps can we take to lose this un-wanted belly fat?

Fat on your belly is definitely worse for your health than carrying excess fat on your butt or thighs. The reason for this is belly fat can encourage the liver to release fatty acids which contribute to your cholesterol and can ultimately raise levels.

It can also alter the amount of the key hormone that is involved with our appetite, the storage of fat and heart disease.

This leads to a cycle whereby you constantly feel hungry resulting in you eating more – probably snack or junk food and ultimately accumulating and storing more fat. Steps we can take to alter this cycle would be changing our dietary habits. If you find yourself missing out breakfast, and not eating during the day, and binging at night you are in fact promoting weight gain which would again lead to more belly fat. So what do we do to lose this unsightly belly fat? Ideally you should consume 5-6 smaller or lighter meals a day which obviously would begin with breakfast. As the day comes to an end try and eat your last meal around four hour prior to bedtime.

The foods consumed will determine the extent of your success.

The market place is saturated with fads surrounding diets. If you feel you need a resource to refer to look at the food pyramid.

This very simply explains what you should eat, when, and how often, thus promoting eating in a balanced fashion. For the best results we need nourishment from several food groups not just one.

As we are trying to eat 5-6 meals a day making them smaller portions will help to lose belly fat. Exercise will also play an important role in our weight loss attempts so let’s get off the couch and see what we can do? Anything that you can do that includes walking instead of taking the car would be a great start. Anything that gets you out the house and helps promote your physical well being It may take time but once you have made your dietary changes and are comfortable with your new routine the changes will start to show on your body and overall appearance.
